Banbury Station (UK) - Waterflow
Sewers under railways

Sewer relining
- once more as a non standard solution

The basic conditions of Banbury Station (UK) project:

- The pipe passed under eight railway tracks including heigh speed lines and goods lines.
- The method of repair should be minimised the impact on passanger and freight services on the railway.
- The level of adjacent river meant that there would be insuffucient cover under the railway.
- The pipe had been found in poor conditions.

As the Waterflow Group has many experiences with such special projects for many years a cooperation with iMPREG gave a good solution for such a difficult project. After an extensive testing phase at iMPREG a final glass reinforced liner was designed at iMPREG for such high strength requirements. Based on the high statical requirements many quality tests were made and a final iMPREG liner with an outside diameter of 780 mm with a wall thickness off 15 mm was developed and optimized.

During the testing phase at iMPREG various dimensional changes, a long radius ´S´ shaped horizontal curve, displaced bricks as well as 8 laterals (100 mm to 225 mm diameter) were detected in the pipe of Banbury Station. The combination of an accurate technic, trained staff, and a first-class product was the solution for this project.
To assure a first-class rehabilitation the installation was splitted in three parts and three specific iPREG liner were produced. The liners had three separate layers of reforecement around its outer face to protect it during the installation.

During the first installation part, a professional service technician of iMPREG was on site to support and to train the staff of Waterflow Group for the next installations. After the successful installation of the “free in air” UV cured GRP liner, “patch” liners were installed to reconnect laterals and the remaining annulus was grouted in three stages.

Before and during the installations of 2nd and 3rd part heavy rain fall did not stop. This situation required the installation of various stoppers and three high flow 150 mm pumps were employed to over pump the sewer. Due to the good instruction of the service technician of iMPREG the perfect installation was assured.

Due to the successful rehabilitation and the missing of impact on passenger and freight services the client and principal were highly pleased of the results. According to their statements both, client and principal, will choose the iMPREG liner for such problem solutions in the future.
